Behind The Design: Love Yourself (April '16)

Last month our "I Love My Thighs" baby onesie went viral on Facebook. The message of positivity, self-acceptance and empowerment on a little baby body has always resonated with people. Start 'em young with the self-esteem and celebration of their true selves, right? As the photo made the rounds several grownups jokingly commented that they needed a similar shirt for themselves, which got me thinking, what would be the big kid and/or grownup version of "I Love My Thighs"? What would be the most empowering message we could put on a shirt for girls, boys, men, or women of all...

Baby Rompers Are Here!

Baby Rompers Are Here!

I'm SO excited to share that we've expanded our baby collection to include adorable little short-sleeved rompers for spring! Rompers are my absolute personal favorite baby garment. I just adored dressing my son in them when he was little, and when my daughter was born I couldn't wait for her to follow in his shoes. When it finally dawned on me that the childrenswear industry at large considered rompers to be boys' clothes, and that I wouldn't be finding any rompers that broke the super-boyish mold (polo collars, truck and dinosaur appliques), I was pretty bummed. The Problem With Some "Girly" Tees (But Not Ours)

In our last update we introduced you to our unisex tee for Spring/Summer '16. Today we're excited to introduce our soon-to-be-released "girly" style! It will only be available in toddler sizes (2T, 4T, and 6T) because we couldn't find a youth sized girly tee that met all of our standards (more on this below). But we're super excited to have found a good choice for the littler girls, at least. Let's take a closer look at what was considered, selected, and ruled out. As a reminder, here's what we demand on your behalf when we select a new style. The Free To...

The Search For The Perfect Unisex Tee

The Search For The Perfect Unisex Tee

We take garment choice super seriously here at Free To Be Kids! When we're planning a new style we get a little obsessive with the sample collection and comparison. Here's what we demand on your behalf: Ethical production. All potential suppliers must either be certified sweatshop free by Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production or based in the US with a proven track record. If they're not, we won't even consider working with them.  Quality manufacturing. Garments must be well sewn and symmetrical with consistent shape, straight cuts and seams. Fabulous fabric. Of course the fabric has to look good, feel soft, and drape beautifully, but that's only...
